Hello there, christmas-crazed cosplaying community. Holiday Matsuri, a rapidly growing, local anime convention is right around the corner, and as such, my cosplay itch has grown unbearably strong. Not an itch to DO cosplay, but an itch to SEE cosplay. Not just as pictures on the internet, but in person at a convention I actually attend.
I don’t dabble in the art of presenting myself as a fictional character, as I deeply prefer writing and speaking about anime instead. But I have the utmost respect for cosplay. It is a beautiful craft that mixes athleticism, attention to detail, and artistic integrity to make a hybrid activity that downright intimidates me. As such, every convention I hope to see cosplayers putting their noble time and effort into a character that I’ve fallen in love with. While my wish list of cosplays I want to see for all time is insanely lengthy, this list is comprised solely of what made an impression on me this year, 2015. Continue reading
It’s con season with my three favorite local conventions coming around the bend much faster than I had anticipated. While I’m not much of a cosplayer, I will be attempting to make one, but if I don’t have it in time, it’s no big deal. I prefer, over anything, just darting around and taking pictures of the people who dedicate their lives to this stuff. I’m an appreciator, much more than a practitioner.
Last summer I made a countdown of what new cosplays I’d like to see the most at the conventions I go to throughout the year. It has pretty much been a year, since then, and sadly, out of the ten I posted, I have only seen two. I hope this year bears more fruitful results.
So what makes this wishlist? Basically, I form this list around new cosplays. Characters who have been introduced into my life within the last year, but if there are some from before that timeframe that I’m still just burning to see, I’ll throw them onto the list as well. This time, if I ever come across somebody who actually cosplays something from this list, I would dearly love to feature them. I’ve been meaning to interview more cosplayers and get a bit more of that type of stuff to beef up my blog. Anyways, you all have cosplays to work on, so let’s get into it! Continue reading
Cons happen year round in these parts, but fall is the season that all of my favorite ones come around. Anime Festival Orlando in my area, as well as Shadocon and Metrocon in the neighboring city of Tampa are my three favorite cons of the year. As such, I have my hopes set on seeing certain cosplays from games or anime that I have played since last year. I’m not much of a cosplayer myself. I prefer to skulk around and see what everyone else with more talent has crafted. I spend my time making AMV’s or writing for this blog, which is perfectly suitable for myself, but I absolutely adore and respect the cosplay world. Here’s to you guys and girls, and the teb cosplays I’m dying to see! (In a slight order of dramatic build up.) Continue reading
12 months have flown by yet again and now we all have to adjust to writing a 14 whenever we date things now. For many, this is a time to reflect on the year behind us, which I have already done by highlighting my top 13 nerdy moments of 2013. Before the monotony of another year sets in, we have to get excited and look forward to what 2014 and beyond will give us! Continue reading
Pardon my tardiness to the yearly retrospect club. Being punctual with my writing wasn’t one of my new year’s resolutions, unfortunately. However, writing in general was, and this is definitely a great time to reflect on all things that made last year special. Since I’m a self-proclaimed nerd and otaku, I figured it’d be fitting to specifically celebrate all things nerdy that were the highlights of 2013 for myself. I always like to feel “good” to be a nerd, instead of ashamed or reserved, and upon looking back on the year, I even found it a struggle to narrow it down to 13, which is a great sign that I’m living a great life as a nerd. This helps me feel that there’s nothing wrong with my lifestyle, and that it can carve as deep of memories as anything else out there. So without any more delay, before I ramble on to 2015, let me proudly share my defining moments as a nerd in 2013! Continue reading
Fictional characters don’t exist. They aren’t real. That hot rogue that you interact with in your favorite RPG is nothing more than a construct of numbers and polygons. That is, until you’re walking through the halls of a convention and you see a person cosplaying that very same character. Conventions are always one of the biggest highlights of my life. It’s a celebration of all things nerdy or fictional where no one has to be ashamed of what they love. Chief among the many things to look for at a convention are cosplays. This list contains the top ten cosplays that would make me abandon all sense of composure and drop to my knee and ask for their hand in marriage. Continue reading
